A crew member aboard Carnival Vista sustained an injury on Thursday, prompting the cruise ship to make an unexpected return to St. Thomas shortly after departing.

The incident took place after the vessel left Charlotte Amalie, where it had been docked since 7 a.m. Instead of continuing on its planned itinerary, the Carnival Vista turned back to the West Indian Company (WICO) dock to ensure the injured crew member could receive proper medical care on shore.

According to Mark Sabino, director of marine and cruise services at WICO, the crew member fell and may have suffered a broken leg, though the full extent of the injury was not immediately confirmed.

Once the crew member was safely transferred for medical treatment, the ship departed again at 8 p.m. on Thursday, resuming its scheduled journey. Carnival Vista’s original itinerary included two days at sea on Friday and Saturday, before reaching Port Canaveral, Florida, where passengers were set to disembark on Sunday morning.
