Rapid Expansion at Romania's Key Port
A leading port in Europe, recognized for its rapid growth, is initiating a critical dredging project to manage the increased cargo flow resulting from the conflict in neighboring Ukraine.
The government of Romania has sanctioned a comprehensive dredging strategy, allocating $229 million over a span of three years to enhance and expand the infrastructure across 400 hectares at Constanta, a major hub on the Black Sea.
Following Russia's withdrawal from the UN-endorsed Black Sea Grain Initiative in the latter half of July last year, Ukraine found itself compelled to reroute a significant portion of its exports through the Danube, directing additional shipments through Constanta's bustling port. As the most active port on the Black Sea, Constanta is now operating beyond its intended capacity, struggling to handle the surge in traffic effectively.
