Maersk and CMA CGM have informed their clients of changes to their combined Bossa Nova/SIRIUS service that links the Mediterranean to the East Coast of South America.

Starting 14 March, visits to the port of Rio de Janeiro (Southbound) will be paused until July, with the precise resumption date yet to be determined.

CMA CGM has stated that this action is taken to improve the reliability of the service, which has been severely affected by operational issues and significant port congestion in Brazil. These problems are due to ongoing repairs at the Santos BTP Pier 1, which is currently out of service after an incident, and continuous public works at Navegantes.

Maersk mentioned in their announcement, "The operational challenges are expected to last at least through Q2 2024."

The updated port sequence will include Algeciras (Spain), Tanger (Morocco), Salvador (Brazil), Santos (Brazil), Paranagua (Brazil), Itapoa (Brazil), Paranagua (Brazil), Santos (Brazil), Itaguai (Brazil), Tanger (Morocco), and back to Algeciras (Spain).
