Ocean Winds, a joint venture between France’s Engie and Portugal’s EDP, has received an electricity business license for its Hanbando offshore wind farm in South Korea.

The 1,125MW bottom-fixed wind project is situated within South Korea’s exclusive economic zone off Incheon. The license grants exclusive development rights for the designated sea area and secures interconnection capacity for the project.

With this approval in place, Hanbando Offshore Wind will now begin key steps such as the environmental impact assessment, site investigations, and main engineering studies, along with obtaining additional permits.

The project aligns with South Korea’s renewable energy strategy, which targets 125.9GW of capacity by 2038.

Additionally, Ocean Winds will contribute to Incheon City’s goal of developing 6.2GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030.
