The Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP), based in Singapore, has reported an armed incident on the bulk carrier Wadi Feran.

On July 16, at approximately 2:30 AM local time, five armed men carrying knives and guns were spotted in the engine room of the Wadi Feran while it was transiting through the Straits of Malacca and Singapore.

The vessel’s general alarm was promptly activated, alerting the crew who quickly assembled in response to the emergency. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the crew members. Following the incident, the captain of the Wadi Feran notified the Vessel Traffic Information System in Singapore, which then initiated a Safety Navigational Broadcast.

Upon the vessel’s arrival at the anchorage, the Singapore Police Coast Guard boarded the bulk carrier and conducted a thorough search but did not find any perpetrators on board.

The Wadi Feran is a 57,300 dwt bulk carrier sailing under the Egyptian flag. Built in 2011, the vessel departed from Paradip Port in India on July 10 and is scheduled to arrive at Bayuquan Port in China on July 27.
