Following a major fire off its coast, the Bangladeshi government has urged local companies to steer clear of working with sanctioned ships and cargoes.

A 32-year-old LPG carrier that caught fire off Bangladesh five days ago was discovered to be transporting sanctioned Iranian gas, according to an investigation by TankerTrackers.com

The incident led to the rescue of 31 people after two gas carriers caught fire near Chittagong port. The explosion and subsequent blaze occurred during the transfer of LPG from the Captain Nicholas, which was carrying Iranian gas, to the 27-year-old lighter vessel B-LPG Sofia near Kutubdia.

In response to the fire, the Department of Shipping, under the Ministry of Shipping, issued an advisory to maritime stakeholders, urging strict compliance with international and national regulations regarding sanctioned vessels and cargoes.

The advisory warned that violations of these regulations could result in severe penalties, including fines, suspension of operating licenses, and potential criminal charges.
