Norwegian Cruise Line is set to add 24 new staterooms to the Norwegian Encore during a scheduled drydock later this year, mirroring recent enhancements made to the Norwegian Joy.

In addition to the new staterooms, significant upgrades will be made to the premium suites in the ship’s Haven, Norwegian’s exclusive ship-within-a-ship concept.

These additional rooms are projected to generate an estimated $150,000 each in annual revenue, according to Patrik Dahlgren, Executive Vice President of Vessel Operations at Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings. Dahlgren shared this information during the company’s investor day earlier this year.

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings is expected to allocate 170 drydock days across its fleet of three brands in 2024. “A cruise ship on a regular basis needs to go into drydock for regulatory inspections and technical upgrades,” Dahlgren explained. “What we did in this example, with the Norwegian Joy, is we looked at areas onboard the ship that were underutilized.

“During this particular drydock, we added 24 additional balcony staterooms. That is additional revenue for the vessel. We implemented an additional thermal spa onboard the ship, which is especially popular and another revenue-generating item. “We redesigned the owner’s suite in the Haven area, increasing the revenue for that.

“We also looked at open deck space that was underutilized and then implemented Vibe Beach Club in an expanded format on the Norwegian Joy,” Dahlgren continued. “We are doing the same across the fleet in every drydock going forward.”

For 2024, Dahlgren mentioned that the company aims to add an additional 200 guest cabins across its fleet.
