Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) and Bahamian officials celebrated a major milestone on Friday with the groundbreaking of a new cruise pier at Great Stirrup Cay.

The $150 million project, set to be completed by late 2025, will allow two large ships to dock simultaneously, enhancing guest access to the private island. The pier will serve guests traveling on Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises, and Regent Seven Seas Cruises.

This development aligns with NCLH’s strategy to support its fleet of next-generation vessels currently being built by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri. Beyond the pier, the company plans to upgrade the island’s infrastructure as part of its broader long-term growth plan, which also focuses on reducing financial leverage.

The groundbreaking event was attended by Bahamas Prime Minister Philip Davis, Deputy Prime Minister Chester Cooper, and NCLH executives, including CEO Harry Sommer and Norwegian Cruise Line President David Herrera. Local leaders and stakeholders also joined to mark the occasion.

Describing the new pier as a “transformational investment,” NCLH emphasized its significance for both the region and the company’s cruise operations.

In addition to the pier project, NCLH reaffirmed its dedication to the Bahamas by pledging over $45,000 in 2025 for educational initiatives. These funds will support scholarships, internships, and improvements to community facilities.
