The Port of San Diego has been awarded a $5 million grant to advance sustainable development at the Tenth Avenue Maritime Terminal. The funding, provided by the San Diego County Air Pollution Control District’s Clean Air Project, aims to reduce air pollution and support eco-friendly initiatives.

To meet the grant requirements, the port will contribute an additional $6 million, bringing the total project budget to approximately $11 million. The focus of the project is to enhance the port’s electrical infrastructure to accommodate battery-powered equipment, such as forklifts, electric off-road trucks, and a top handler.

Key upgrades include modernizing the existing 12kV system and adding new components like switchgears, transformers, load interrupters, switchboards, conductors, and concrete pads. These improvements are part of the port's commitment to transitioning to cleaner technologies.

This project aligns with the Port of San Diego’s broader Maritime Clean Air Strategy, adopted in October 2021. The strategy has allocated $125 million to initiatives aimed at reducing emissions and improving air quality around the port and surrounding communities.
