The Royal Caribbean cruise ship Odyssey of the Seas successfully rescued 77 refugees from a distressed sailboat in the Ionian Sea, off the southwestern coast of Greece.

On August 6, during the early hours of Tuesday, the Odyssey spotted the distressed sailboat 112 nautical miles southwest of Pylos, Greece. The cruise ship promptly initiated a rescue operation in collaboration with Greece's search and rescue authority.

All 77 refugees were safely rescued from the small vessel and brought aboard the cruise ship. Thankfully, there were no casualties reported. Upon reaching Kalamata, Greek authorities took custody of the rescued refugees. The nationalities of the rescued individuals were not disclosed.

Odyssey of the Seas is currently on a seven-night Greek Isles cruise, with scheduled stops including Santorini, Kusadasi, Mykonos, and Naples.
