A superyacht, the Bayesian, was caught in a tornado off the coast of Palermo in the early morning hours, and eyewitnesses report that it sank within minutes. Tragically, one person has been confirmed dead, and six others remain missing. There were 22 people aboard the yacht, including British technology tycoon Mike Lynch.

Apparently, the 56-meter yacht was last anchored off Panarea, departing the area on August 15 at 15:05 UTC. It then navigated through the Aeolian Islands, experiencing turbulence near Cefalù on August 18.

The disaster occurred this morning as the yacht was en route to Palermo. The Bayesian sent its final AIS signal at 2:06 UTC before sinking.

Rescue efforts are still underway. So far, 15 individuals have been saved, including a mother and her one-year-old daughter. Mike Lynch has not yet been located, while his wife, Angela Bacares, is among those who were rescued. Most of the 22 people on board were from the United Kingdom.
