Sentosa Beaches Closed After Pasir Panjang Terminal Collision
According to Singapore National Media, the beaches on Sentosa Resort Island were closed following an oil spill at a nearby port. This incident was triggered by a collision between a dredger and an oil tanker.
On the night of Friday, June 14th, the dredger Vox Maxima collided with the oil tanker Marine Honour at Singapore's Pasir Panjang Terminal. The collision resulted in damage to Marine Honour, leading to a bunker oil spill in the surrounding waters.
The Sentosa Development Corporation, responsible for managing Sentosa Island, was notified the same night about the oil spill near one of the beaches. By the next day, the spill had spread to Tanjong Beach and Silico Beach.
Both vessels are currently anchored, and no injuries have been reported. Cleanup operations are underway, with 16 oil spill response boats actively dispersing the oil and collecting the slick from the water.
