A serious maritime collision occurred in Vietnam’s Gulf of Bắc Bộ on April 8, when the Panama-registered cargo ship Hosei Crown struck the Vietnamese fishing vessel TH 92686 TS, resulting in four fatalities.

The incident happened at approximately 6:55 AM local time, when the impact caused the fishing boat to capsize and sink. After receiving an emergency alert, the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (VMRCC) instructed the cargo ship to deploy life buoys and immediately begin rescue efforts for the twelve fishermen thrown overboard. VMRCC also sent its SAR 411 rescue vessel to the scene.

Rescue warnings were swiftly issued, and nearby ships were called in to assist. Local authorities were informed to coordinate support efforts, while the National Civil Defense Steering Committee and the Vietnam Maritime and Waterways Administration were also notified to help direct the ongoing rescue mission.

By around 9:10 AM, eight fishermen had been successfully pulled from the water, while four were confirmed dead. SAR 411 transported the survivors and the deceased to Hai Phong’s Central Pier, where they were handed over to the appropriate authorities.

An investigation has been launched by VMRCC in cooperation with other agencies to uncover the cause of the accident. At the time of the collision, the area was experiencing southeasterly winds at levels 3 to 4, with foggy weather conditions reported.
