A Greece-registered tanker was boarded by two armed individuals carrying knives while traveling eastbound through the Singapore Strait yesterday. This marks the latest in a series of robberies in the region.
The incident occurred about 2.7 nautical miles northwest of Indonesia’s Pemping Island, as reported by UK-based maritime security firm Ambrey.
At the time of the attack, the tanker was moving at a speed of 9.7 knots with an estimated freeboard of 6.35 meters.
Ambrey has warned that vessels with a freeboard of less than 10 meters are at increased risk when passing through the Singapore Strait. Similar incidents have been reported in the same area multiple times over the past six weeks.
