MOL Completes First LNG Ship-to-Ship Bunkering in Canada

Japanese transport company Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) successfully carried out its first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operation in English Bay, British Columbia in Canada on 1st March.
The operation involved the Seaspan Energy-operated vessel Seaspan Garibaldi, which supplied LNG to the MOL-operated car carrier Lake Herman. The bunkering took place while the vessel was moored in English Bay, with Seaspan Energy providing the LNG fuel.
As part of MOL’s Group Environmental Vision, the company aims to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. Expanding the global LNG bunkering network is a key strategy in this mission, allowing for greater deployment of cleaner-fuel vessels.
Yoshikazu Urushitani, General Manager of MOL’s Marine Fuel GX Division, highlighted the significance of the milestone, stating that this successful operation broadens the areas where the company can utilize LNG-powered ships, reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability.
