Sri Lankan local media have reported that the Captain of the vessel Arc Prestige, an Indian national, has been banned from leaving the country due to an investigation into an oil spill. A Magistrate in Colombo issued the one-month travel ban after the vessel anchored at Colombo Port with an oil spill.

The Magistrate instructed the Colombo Port Police to notify both the Immigration Controller and the Captain about the travel restriction, ensuring that the Captain remains in Sri Lanka.

The Arc Prestige, an oil tanker, has a deadweight tonnage of 10,314 and sails under the Indian flag. The vessel, built in 1996 by Asakawa Shipbuilding in Japan, is owned by Integrity Ship Pvt. Ltd. based in Kolkata, India.

The ship left Mumbai Port on April 10 and arrived at Colombo Port on April 20.
