GEFO, a German proprietor, is extending its fleet by acquiring 10 chemical tankers crafted from stainless steel at the Xiangyu shipyard in Nantong, China.

An amount in the millions will be associated with the delivery of ships weighing 3,850 deadweight tons, slated for arrival between 2026 and 2028.

During 2022, GEFO introduced a €400 million ($430 million) investment plan dedicated to the development of new vessels and the incorporation of modern secondhand tonnage. The last newbuild from this initiative is projected to be finalized in the approaching summer.

The latest series is set to undergo further improvements compared to the previous newbuilds, aiming to minimize fuel consumption. Additionally, it has been engineered to integrate “various environmentally friendly optimizations” in the future, such as the adoption of new fuels.

“These newbuilds will serve to expand GEFO’s fleet and replace some of the vessels that will reach the maximum age of 20 years accepted by most chemical shippers between 2028 and 2030,” the organization stated.

GEFO oversees a fleet of about 150 tankers, which includes chemical, gas, and mineral oil vessels. These ships are actively operating in both the Rhine River and the ARA (Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp) chemical triangle.
