Hu Wenming, the former chairman of the state-owned China Shipbuilding Industry Co (CSIC), has been sentenced to 13 years in prison and fined $700,000. This comes after authorities determined him guilty of numerous corruption charges spanning a 20-year duration.
Hu had held a position of paramount influence in China's shipbuilding sector. His journey commenced at the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), eventually leading to his appointments as chairman of CSSC in 2012 and chairman of CSIC in 2015, as part of strategic management reshuffles orchestrated by the central government in state-owned enterprises.
