Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, the largest privately owned shipbuilder in China, is expanding its operations by developing a new yard on 866,671 square meters of land in Jingjiang City. This new site boasts approximately 1.3 kilometers of Yangtze River shoreline and is located next to the company’s current Jiangsu Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding base.

Listed in Singapore, Yangzijiang has allocated RMB 3 billion ($413 million) for the construction of the new yard, which is expected to be completed within two years.

The expansion of Chinese shipyards has been a prominent trend this year. Earlier this month, it was reported that Hengli Heavy Industry has plans to more than double its annual shipbuilding capacity to 7.1 million tons, reflecting the high demand driving the development of new facilities at many Chinese shipyards.

Additionally, New Times Shipbuilding has recently obtained local government approval to construct another drydock.

Asian shipyards are capitalizing on the current newbuilding surge, with data from the end of June indicating that the number of active yards has increased by 17.7% over the past two years.
