On 27th February, a maritime mishap unfolded at Gemlik Port in Turkey when two general cargo vessels, Friends RS 1 and Jessica B, collided. The incident occurred as Friends RS 1 was maneuvering to exit the port, coming into contact with Jessica B, which was docked at the time.

As a result of the impact, Jessica B suffered a puncture in its outer section above the waterline, causing ballast water to be forcefully discharged into the sea. Authorities have begun assessing the damage to Jessica B, while Friends RS 1 has been anchored off Gemlik.

Investigations are currently underway to evaluate the environmental impact of the collision and to determine any potential pollution in the surrounding waters.
