Heerema Marine Contractors, a Dutch offshore construction company, has agreed to initial contracts for transporting and installing turbine foundations and a substation for the Baltyk II and Baltyk III wind farms in Poland.

The agreements with Polenergia, which is partnering with Equinor to develop these 720 MW wind farms, mark a step toward finalizing contracts. These preliminary agreements secure Heerema's commitment by reserving installation vessels.

The arrangements also encompass preparatory work that will be included in the ultimate contracts if they are finalized. Should the agreements be canceled, Heerema is entitled to a cancellation fee that could total approximately €29.2 million for both projects.

Furthermore, similar fees may apply to Polenergia and Equinor if they do not finalize contracts by July 1, 2024, although there is a provision to extend this deadline.

Located in the Polish exclusive economic zone of the Baltic Sea, the Baltyk II and III projects will be situated 22 to 37 km off the coast. They are expected to start commercial operations in 2028.

Companies such as Seway 7, Jan De Nul, and Hellenic Cables have been selected for the cabling tasks. Additionally, Equinor and Polenergia are developing another project, Bałtyk I, which could reach a capacity of up to 1,560 MW.
