South Korea’s Doosan Enerbility and Japanese conglomerate Marubeni have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to advance offshore wind power development in Vietnam.

Doosan, which operates an industrial complex in Quang Ngai province, intends to manufacture monopiles for offshore wind turbines along with other essential components for offshore wind farms.

Marubeni will look into partnering with Vietnamese companies to enhance the offshore wind power industry in Vietnam.

The World Bank estimates that Vietnam has the potential to generate 475GW of offshore wind power. While no offshore wind power plants have been established yet, the country aims to develop 6GW of wind power by 2030. This MoU represents a step towards Vietnam’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

Doosan and Marubeni have previously collaborated on other energy projects in the Asia-Pacific region, including the Nghi Son 2 thermal power plant.

In Vietnam, Doosan has been involved in the construction of four major thermal power plants and has supplied cranes to significant seaports. Meanwhile, Marubeni has participated in 11 power plant projects in the country, including a gas-fired power plant and a 1.5GW LNG-fired power plant.
