Royal Caribbean International’s newest ship, Star of the Seas, was recently floated out of the Meyer Turku shipyard, marking its first contact with water.
The vessel is set to begin service next summer, with its maiden voyages departing from Port Canaveral starting in August.
To celebrate the float out, a maritime tradition took place at the Meyer Turku yard in Finland, which included a ceremonial cannon shot to honor the 19 months of construction by the thousands of workers involved.
Following the ceremony, the drydock was gradually filled with 92 million gallons of water over the course of nine hours, as reported in a statement.
