Royal Caribbean Marks Expansion of Dominica's Cabo Rojo Port
The arrival of Royal Caribbean International’s Adventure of the Seas has signaled the launch of a new phase of expansion at the Cabo Rojo Cruise Port on the southern coast of the Dominican Republic.
Earlier this year, the newly opened port welcomed its first-ever cruise ship, and with this latest expansion, it now has the capacity to accommodate up to 15,000 cruise passengers in a single day, according to local reports.
The upgraded facility is also capable of receiving some of the world’s largest cruise vessels, including Royal Caribbean's Oasis-class ships.
Dominican Republic President Luis Abinader and Tourism Minister David Collado were on-site to celebrate the inauguration of the port's new phase of development.
The Adventure of the Seas made its inaugural visit on October 16, 2024, marking Royal Caribbean’s first stop at Cabo Rojo. Sailing from Port Canaveral, the 3,430-passenger ship visited the port as part of an eight-night Southern Caribbean and Bahamas cruise.
The itinerary also included visits to Aruba, Curaçao, and Royal Caribbean’s private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay.
Following this debut, Royal Caribbean plans to schedule regular calls at Cabo Rojo as part of its Western and Southern Caribbean itineraries. In addition to the Adventure of the Seas, the Oasis of the Seas is set to call at Cabo Rojo starting in May 2025.
Royal Caribbean describes Cabo Rojo as offering “beautiful beaches, turquoise waters, and preserved coral reefs.”
Developed by the Dominican Port Authority (APORDOM), the Cabo Rojo Cruise Port is also set to welcome ships from Holland America Line, Costa Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, MSC Cruises, and Azamara in 2025 and 2026.
The port first opened to cruise traffic in January 2024, with a visit from Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Pearl.
