Thailand’s Regional Carrier Lines (RCL) is set to expand its fleet by ordering four new containerships from Chinese shipyards.

According to a stock exchange announcement, RCL plans to add two 11,000 TEU vessels and two 4,400 TEU vessels, with deliveries scheduled for 2027 and 2028.

The larger 11,000 TEU ships are priced at up to $125 million each, while the smaller 4,400 TEU vessels are valued at approximately $59.7 million apiece.

Although RCL currently has vessels under construction at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding and Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding, the company did not specify the exact shipyards for these latest orders. However, they stated that contracts have been finalized with "trusted and well-known shipyards."

RCL ranks 20th on Alphaliner’s list of the world’s largest container carriers, operating 28 owned ships with a total capacity of 86,400 TEU. With 17 newbuilds now on order, the company is on track to more than double its fleet capacity once all vessels are delivered.

“The additional orders of 11,000 teu and 4,400 teus vessels align with the company’s strategy to enhance its fleet, expand operations into new markets, and strengthen its existing network. This initiative not only enhances operational efficiency but also supports the long-term time charter-out market, which is expected to remain in high demand,” RCL said in a statement.
