ZIM Overtakes Yang Ming in Global Liner Rankings
The global rankings of shipping liners have recently seen significant changes, with the Israeli shipping company ZIM surpassing Taiwan's Yang Ming in terms of capacity.
According to Linerlytica, a consultancy firm, this shift occurred following the delivery of the ZIM Mount Vinson, a vessel with a capacity of 15,248 TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units), positioning ZIM ninth in the worldwide rankings, up from tenth.
ZIM's growth has been remarkable, with its size increasing by 155% since 2020, as reported by Linerlytica. The company's fleet expansion is set to continue, with an additional 19 new vessels expected to be delivered by the end of this year.
On the other hand, Yang Ming, which was the eighth-largest operator in 2020, has fallen behind in the rankings due to a lack of fleet growth, with no new ship additions anticipated until 2026. This stagnation has allowed other operators like HMM and ZIM to overtake Yang Ming in global shipping capacity.
