ITF Aids Abandoned Crew of Cargo Ship Anchored in Turkey

Crew members aboard the general cargo vessel BURHAM C (formerly known as Jetmax 2) have received essential supplies from the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) Seafarers' support team after being stranded off the coast of Turkey since October of last year.
The ship’s all-Indian crew had been left without adequate food or fresh water following the vessel’s abandonment by its owners. In desperate conditions, the seafarers were forced to drink boiled seawater to survive. Thanks to the assistance of ITF inspector Kenan Dinc, the team was able to deliver much-needed food, water, and other basic supplies to the crew.
The ITF Seafarers' support team plays a critical role in situations like that of the BURHAM C, advocating for the rights of abandoned seafarers and ensuring they receive necessary aid. The ITF also formally records such incidents in the International Labour Organization’s Abandonment of Seafarers database to help track and address these violations.
