On April 5th, two state-of-the-art double level luffing jib cranes reached the Port of Piraeus, Greece, marking a significant technological advancement for the port's shipbuilding capabilities.

These cranes, slated for installation at the Perama Ship Repair Zone in positions 1 and 2 shortly, boast a lifting capacity of 40 tons each. Their arrival heralds a transformative phase for the ship repair services offered in the zone, enhancing its capacity to handle ships up to 55 meters in height.

This development addresses the previous reliance on mobile cranes due to an absence of quayside cranes in the Perama zone.

The acquisition of these cranes, with an investment close to €8 million (around US$8.7 million), forms a part of the Piraeus Port Authority's (PPA) broader initiative to upgrade and modernize the Ship Repair Zone's facilities, following a concession agreement with the Greek government.

Yu Zenggang, the Chairman of the PPA, expressed his contentment with the cranes' arrival, noting the substantial improvement they represent for the Perama Ship Repair Zone. He highlighted the enhanced capability to service a broader spectrum of vessels, reflecting on the strategic significance of the PPA's investment initiatives.

The process of unloading the cranes is meticulously planned and will commence in the next few days, ensuring that all necessary preparations are completed for a seamless installation.
