Nassau Cruise Port recently hosted students from the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) Second Chance Program, offering them an exclusive and enriching experience, according to a press release.

A group of 60 students, accompanied by 10 RBPF chaperones, toured the cruise port, including a stop at the Bahamas Museum of Junkanoo. The students attended presentations from the Nassau Cruise Port team, Bahari Bahamas, and other community partners, where they learned about various career paths and entrepreneurial opportunities.

The visit was capped off with a sponsored lunch at Preacher’s Kid, a Bahamian restaurant located within the port.

Shawn Gomez, the marketing manager at Nassau Cruise Port, stated, “We believe in supporting educational initiatives that inspire and empower our youth. The Second Chance Programme aligns with our commitment to support the growth and development of our community. Our team was excited to share their career stories and offer the students some exposure to the diverse range of opportunities available in the cruise and maritime sectors. We hope the experience sparked curiosity and ambition among the participants.”

Superintendent Keith Ferguson of the Royal Bahamas Police Force expressed his gratitude, saying, “We are sincerely thankful to the Nassau Cruise Port team for facilitating this enriching experience for our children. Exposing them to various aspects of life beyond their immediate surroundings is invaluable. The visit opened their eyes to new possibilities and reinforced the importance of perseverance and personal growth.”

The Second Chance program aims to help young people transform their lives by learning from past mistakes and gaining new experiences. The port tour provided students with an up-close look at cruise port operations and insights into maritime industry careers, encouraging them to envision a more promising future.
