On April 11, the Panamanian-flagged cruise ship MSC Sinfonia sustained damage to its starboard-side propulsion and steering systems while berthed at Corfu’s new port. At the time, the ship had 2,193 passengers and 730 crew members on board.

In response to the mechanical issue, the Corfu Port Authority promptly issued a sailing restriction to prioritize passenger safety. After a detailed inspection and the submission of a seaworthiness certificate from the vessel’s classification society, officials authorized a one-time voyage to Bari, Italy.

The ship departed Corfu with the assistance of the tugboat Megalochari XIV.

Authorities confirmed there were no injuries and no signs of marine pollution resulting from the incident.
