India-Arabian Gulf Reefer Surcharge Implemented by Hapag-Lloyd

Hapag-Lloyd, the German shipping company, has introduced a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) applicable to cargo being transported from India to various ports in the Arabian Gulf.

This surcharge will be effective for all shipments commencing on the 20th of April, 2024, and will continue to be applied until an unspecified future date.

The surcharge rates have been specified as follows:

- For a 20-foot reefer container, the surcharge is US$100.

- For a 40-foot reefer container, the surcharge is US$200.

The surcharge will affect shipments originating from several major Indian ports, including Nhava Seva, Kandla, and Mundra. The destinations covered under this PSS encompass Umm Qasr in Iraq and Dammam in Saudi Arabia, within the Arabian Gulf region.
