The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) in Perak has detained the bulk carrier Queen Harmony for anchoring without permission.

On March 17, at approximately 3:30 PM local time, authorities discovered the vessel anchored illegally around 13 nautical miles northwest of Pulau Jarak.

Investigations revealed that the ship had not secured an anchoring permit from the Malaysian Marine Department, nor had it reported its arrival in Malaysian waters.

The case falls under the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952, which carries penalties of up to RM 100,000 (approximately $21,000 USD) in fines or a maximum prison sentence of two years. Additionally, failure to report arrival could result in an extra fine of up to RM 5,000 (about $1,050 USD).

According to the MMEA, the vessel is commanded by an Egyptian captain and has a crew of 20, consisting of one Russian, two Ukrainians, and 17 Filipinos. Two crew members have been taken to the MMEA Perak Headquarters for further investigation.
