Hapag-Lloyd, the German ocean carrier, has announced a General Rate Increase (GRI) / General Rate Adjustment (GRA) for container shipments moving from the Indian Subcontinent and Middle East to North America.

The rate adjustment will take effect for all fully gated containers starting January 15, 2025, and will remain in place until further notice.

The GRI/GRA will be set at $1,000 per 20' or 40' container, and it applies to dry, reefer, and special containers, including high-cube equipment.

Hapag-Lloyd clarified that the affected Indian Subcontinent and Middle East region includes countries such as India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan. On the receiving end, the North America region refers to the United States and Canada.

This adjustment reflects ongoing efforts to align shipping rates with market conditions and ensure the sustainability of Hapag-Lloyd's services across key trade routes.
