Houthi Rebels Launch Attacks on US Supply Ships in Red Sea
On December 1st, Houthi rebels targeted several vessels traversing the Red Sea, focusing their assault on US supply ships. The group claimed responsibility for the attacks, stating that drones and missiles were used to strike three specific vessels: the Maersk Saratoga, the Stena Impeccable, and the Liberty Grace.
The US military confirmed that three American-owned vessels were attacked while transiting the Red Sea between November 30th and December 1st. However, they refrained from identifying the vessels and disputed the Houthi claims, asserting that the ships suffered no damage during the incidents.
According to US Central Command (CENTCOM), the destroyers USS Stockdale and USS O’Kane intercepted and destroyed three anti-ship ballistic missiles, three drones, and one anti-ship cruise missile to protect the vessels under attack. It remains unclear whether the targeted vessels continued their journey or were forced to abort due to the assault.
In a separate event, the United Kingdom Maritime and Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency reported an attack on December 1st at 9:32 AM UTC, approximately 80 miles south of Aden. Following this incident, the UKMTO issued a warning, advising vessels in the area to exercise heightened caution.
