Grimaldi Introduces RoRo Service Between Italy & Turkey
The Grimaldi Group is preparing to launch a new roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) shipping route connecting Italy and Turkey. This new service, scheduled to start on September 14, will link the ports of Trieste in Italy and Ambarli in Turkey.
Two of Grimaldi’s most environmentally-friendly Ro-Ro ships, the Eco Malta and Eco Mediterranea, will operate along this route. These vessels will provide two weekly sailings from both ports.
Part of the advanced GG5G class, these ships feature cutting-edge green technologies, including hybrid propulsion systems, lithium batteries for zero-emission operation while docked, fuel-saving designs, and solar panels covering 350 square meters of deck space.
Compared to older Ro-Ro models, the Eco Malta and Eco Mediterranea are twice as efficient in terms of CO2 emissions per cargo unit.
This new service is expected to be especially beneficial for major automakers like BMW, Land Rover, Kia, Hyundai, and Mercedes-Benz, allowing them to use the route for both importing raw materials and exporting finished products.
With increasing demand for a more efficient maritime trade link between Italy and Turkey, this new route will enhance the supply chain. The strategic locations of Trieste, offering access to northern Italy and Central Europe, and Ambarli, situated near Istanbul and Turkey’s economic hub, are set to significantly improve trade efficiency between the two regions.
