Local authorities in Brazil have implemented a temporary solution to manage one of the country's major ports, nearly 18 months after the previous terminal operator departed.

JBS, a Brazilian food manufacturing company, will manage the Itajaí port in Santa Catarina state for the next two years while preparations are made for a longer-term contract.

The prior contract, held by APM Terminals, expired at the end of 2022. Since then, no new operator has taken over due to ongoing legal disputes regarding the tender process. Consequently, the state government has been running the port on a limited basis over the past year.

Itajaí port is Brazil's second-largest for container handling and leads in exporting frozen products. Its primary imports include machinery, engines, and equipment.
