On February 11, Turkey’s Directorate General of Coastal Safety (KEGM) reported a fuel leak during a bunkering operation involving the crude oil tanker Jag and the oil product tanker Gokdeniz. The incident took place at Ahırkapı Anchorage, located off the coast of Istanbul.

During refueling, an uncontrolled fuel discharge from the Liberian-flagged crude oil tanker JAG led to water contamination in the surrounding area.

In response, KEGM dispatched multiple vessels, including KEGM-3 and KEGM-4 lifeboats, an environmental barge, and the tugboat Mehmetcik, along with a rescue specialist, to manage the marine pollution. Cleanup operations were swiftly initiated to mitigate the environmental impact.
