Chinese company Alita Shanghai International Shipping is expanding its fleet of stainless steel chemical tankers by commissioning up to four new ships from domestic shipbuilder Zhejiang Haoyou Shipbuilding.

The contract includes two confirmed orders and two additional optional orders for 13,800 dwt IMO type II and III vessels, with deliveries scheduled to begin in November of the next year.

These 132-meter-long ships, each with a maximum hold capacity of 15,200 cubic meters, will join Alita’s previously ordered chemical tankers from the newly revived New Jiangzhou Shipbuilding. That order, placed late last year, also included up to four ships, with the confirmed vessels expected to be delivered in 2025.

Several other Chinese owners are similarly increasing their fleets of stainless steel chemical carriers. Junzheng Group, through its subsidiary SC Shipping, has ordered up to twenty 25,900 dwt newbuilds from Wuchang Shipbuilding and China Merchants Jinling. Meanwhile, Xingtong Shipping has also ordered a pair of similar methanol-ready units from Wuchang.
