The port of Lyon, located on the banks of the Rhône River, is set for a major upgrade as CMA CGM has secured a 30-year contract to manage two of its container terminals.

The Marseille-based shipping giant plans to invest €40 million ($42 million) to strengthen Lyon's connection with Fos-sur-Mer on the Mediterranean coast. The objective is to double the volume of containerized freight transported along the Rhône River by 2032.

CMA CGM, which has seen substantial financial growth in recent years, has been actively expanding its ports division. Just last week, the company’s chairman, Rodolphe Saadé, attended the inauguration of a new container terminal in Abu Dhabi, highlighting the firm’s ongoing push to grow its global port operations.
