Wallenius Wilhelmsen, a leading Norwegian car carrier operator, has finalized two long-term shipping agreements with major automobile manufacturers, both featuring a commitment to using biofuel.

The first deal is a three-year contract valued at roughly $263 million over the term, based on projected shipping volume. This contract incorporates Wallenius Wilhelmsen's updated bunker adjustment factor, known as BAF2.0, which applies to shipments on the Asia to North America route.

The second agreement is a two-year contract valued at approximately $112 million for the full contract term, also based on the expected shipping volume. This deal introduces a fixed surcharge to support the use of biofuel in vessel operations.

According to Wallenius Wilhelmsen, the rates for both contracts align with current market conditions. The agreements are set to commence in January and April 2025, respectively.

“These agreements add to our contracted book of business and are a great testament to our customers’ commitment to ensuring more sustainable freight by investing in the use of biofuel when transporting their cars with us,” said Pia Synnerman, Chief Customer Officer at Wallenius Wilhelmsen.
