The Sun Princess will arrive at its new homeport in Port Everglades later than expected due to the impact of Hurricane Milton.

According to a message sent to passengers, the ship is now scheduled to dock in Florida two days later than planned, arriving on October 11, 2024. Initially, the vessel was set to reach the port on October 9, following a 16-night trans-Atlantic voyage.

“Due to the storm, the U.S. Coast Guard has restricted ship access to all ports in South Florida,” Princess Cruises stated. “While the Coast Guard has not provided a specific reopening date, we are currently planning to return to Fort Lauderdale on Friday, pending clearance,” the company added.

In the meantime, the LNG-powered Sun Princess will remain at sea, steering clear of the storm. “Throughout this time, we’ll continue to monitor the storm’s path closely and ensure that we remain well away from any dangerous weather, prioritizing your safety and comfort,” Princess Cruises reassured guests.

To help passengers manage their post-cruise travel plans, the cruise line is offering complimentary internet access to everyone onboard, allowing them to stay connected and adjust their arrangements as needed.

“We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding, and flexibility as we navigate this situation. Our team is fully committed to ensuring your safety and providing a pleasant experience during this extended time at sea,” the company added.

The Sun Princess had departed Southampton in late September, making stops in England, Spain, and Portugal, with destinations including Portland, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and Funchal. After completing its trans-Atlantic crossing, the 4,300-passenger vessel, built by Fincantieri in Italy, will spend the winter season cruising the Caribbean.

The ship, which entered service in February, was wrapping up its inaugural season in the Mediterranean.
