German energy company RWE has awarded Lamprell Energy two significant contracts to supply transition pieces for its two UK offshore wind projects currently under construction – Norfolk Vanguard West and Norfolk Vanguard East.

Under the contracts, Lamprell will manufacture and deliver 92 transition pieces for each wind farm, then transport the structures to RWE’s designated marshalling port.

Norfolk Vanguard West and East are part of the Norfolk Offshore Wind Zone, which also includes Norfolk Boreas. Together, the three wind farms will generate enough clean energy to power approximately 4 million typical UK households.

Each of the three Norfolk projects is designed to have a capacity of 1.4 GW and will be situated about 47 to 80 kilometers off the coast of Norfolk, East Anglia. These projects already have secured seabed rights, grid connections, and necessary permits. Onshore construction, including substations and the cable route from Necton to Happisburgh, is already underway. RWE plans to enter the Norfolk Vanguard projects into an upcoming Contracts for Difference auction.

In addition to these projects, RWE is currently developing 10 offshore wind farms across the UK and Ireland, which could collectively provide an installed capacity of around 10.5 GW. The company is also constructing the 1.4 GW Sofia offshore wind farm in the North Sea off the UK’s east coast.
