An oil spill has been reported at a Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) terminal in Bonny, Nigeria, following a rupture in a pipeline connected to the facility.

According to the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), the spill occurred on December 15, and the oil has since reached the shoreline, raising concerns about potential environmental impact.

SPDC has stated that the incident at the Bonny Oil Export Terminal will not disrupt oil exports, as only one of the three loading buoys has been taken offline. The company confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine both the cause of the spill and the amount of oil released into the environment.

In response to the incident, NIMASA has set up an emergency operations center to monitor the situation in real-time. The agency is working closely with SPDC and other key stakeholders to limit the spill's impact and expedite containment efforts.
