Novatek's Baltic Terminal Targeted by Drones from Ukraine
During the weekend, Ukrainian forces launched a drone strike on Russia's largest Baltic port.
Executing the mission with the aid of two long-range drones, the operation led to a substantial fire at Novatek's gas terminal, prompting the evacuation of all staff.
During the attack, four tankers were anchored at the port. They quickly vacated the harbor within an hour of the explosions, and fortunately, none of the ships suffered any damage in the incident.
Novatek reported the need to temporarily stop several activities at its terminal along the Gulf of Finland. The vast Ust-Luga complex stands as the second-largest port in Russia.
According to Ambrey, consultants specializing in maritime security based in the UK, there was a second Ukrainian drone attack on a Russian port in the Baltic Sea within four days. Specifically, on January 18, the port of St Petersburg was hit by debris from an unmanned aerial vehicle.
The assaults in the Baltic region replicate a victorious campaign akin to the one Ukraine executed successfully in the Black Sea.
