Wallenius Wilhelmsen has exercised options to commission the construction of four more cutting-edge Shaper Class vessels designed for carrying cars and trucks.

The vessels, boasting a capacity of 9,300 Car Equivalent Units (CEU) and equipped for methanol dual fuel usage, are designed to operate on alternative fuels like methanol right from their delivery. Furthermore, they are prepared for a future conversion to use ammonia as fuel, aligning with the availability and safe application of ammonia. These advanced ships are integral to Wallenius Wilhelmsen's ambition to offer a service with zero net emissions across the board by 2027.

“Together with our customers we are committed to further shaping our industry and accelerating towards net zero. These new vessels are a vital part of that journey,” stated Xavier Leroi, EVP & COO Shipping Services.

With this recent action, the total Shaper Class vessels ordered from Jinling Shipyard (Jiangsu) climbs to eight, with Wallenius Wilhelmsen maintaining additional options for more vessels.

The initial set of Shaper Class ships previously ordered are slated for delivery in the latter half of 2026. The subsequent four vessels, as per the newly exercised options, are scheduled for delivery from May to November 2027.
