The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has welcomed its newest member, the Kyrgyz Republic.
This Central Asian country, which does not have access to the sea, has officially become the 176th country to join the IMO.
An upcoming key event at the IMO's London headquarters is the eighty-first session of the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC), set to take place from March 18 to 22. The session's primary agenda is to advance the creation of mandatory regulations to achieve the landmark goal set last year of eliminating greenhouse gas emissions from the shipping industry by the year 2050.
