On October 18, Houthi forces based in Yemen announced they had targeted the container ship Megalopolis in the Arabian Sea.
A representative of the Houthi group stated that drones were used in the attack due to the ship violating restrictions on accessing Israeli-operated ports. However, no specific date for the incident was provided by the spokesperson.
Megalopolis, a Malta-flagged vessel built in 2013, has a deadweight tonnage of 62,172. The ship is owned by US-listed shipping company Costamare Inc. and is currently under a charter to AP Moller Maersk. According to Marine Traffic data, the vessel, loaded with cargo, departed from Valencia, Spain, on September 24 and is presently docked at Salalah Port in Oman.
