The general cargo vessel Bers experienced an engine failure while passing through the Bosphorus near the July 15 Martyrs Bridge in Turkey on March 19, prompting a rapid response from maritime authorities.
The Istanbul Vessel Service (VTS) Center coordinated the operation, deploying the tugboat Kurtarma 11 to assist the vessel. A pilot was also dispatched to support the towing process.
Following the intervention, the vessel was successfully towed and anchored safely in Ahırkapı. No injuries or environmental pollution were reported.
Built in 1992, Bers is a cargo ship registered under the flag of Vanuatu. It had departed from Iskenderun, Turkey, and was en route to Constanta, Romania, with an expected arrival on March 20.
