Ferry Collision in Bowen Island Causes Service Disruptions
On February 2nd, the Canadian-flagged Ro-Ro passenger ferry Queen of Capilano was involved in a collision with several moored boats in the Queen Charlotte Channel near Bowen Island, Canada. No injuries or environmental pollution were reported following the incident.
The ferry had just departed from Bowen Island at approximately 7:30 AM local time when it unexpectedly struck multiple moored vessels at the Bowen Island Marina Dock. While the dock and the moored boats sustained damage, the ferry itself remained undamaged.
Following the incident, Queen of Capilano continued operating as scheduled, completing multiple crossings to West Vancouver before BC Ferries suspended its service at 10:15 AM local time due to mechanical difficulties related to its propulsion system. Service resumed at 6:50 PM local time, leading to the cancellation of 14 sailings.
BC Ferries stated that it is collaborating with both the marina and vessel owners to assess damages resulting from the collision. Additionally, an investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the incident and any necessary corrective measures.
