According to Alphaliner, Taiwan’s Evergreen Marine has issued a request for proposals for eleven new 24,000 TEU methanol dual-fuel vessels.
The company has reportedly approached six shipbuilders for bids. The potential builders include South Korea’s Samsung, Hyundai, and Hanwha, alongside China’s Jiangnan Shipyard and Hudong-Zhonghua Shipyard, and Japan’s Imabari Shipbuilding.
Each vessel could be priced as high as $265 million, with expected delivery dates in 2028 and 2029.
No orders for ships of this size, known as megamaxes, have been placed by any liner company this year. The last to do so was France’s CMA CGM, which ordered megamaxes in June of the previous year.
